Toronto, Ontario-based artist Ruth Oosterman collaborates with her two-year-old daughter Eve to create imaginative paintings that feel as though they’ve been lifted from the pages of a fantastic series of storybooks we’re now dying to read. Here Oosterman describe their process:

As all of our collaborations start, my two year old creates her own sketch with an ink pen which I then use to turn into a watercolor painting. The sketch is completely her own with no instruction given from me, I simply use her creativity to inspire me to create a painting.

Oosterman says that she can usually either discern a picture hidden inside Eve’s sketch or her daughter will have chatted with her about what she was drawing. But sometimes there is no conteext andshe has to let her own imagination run with it.

I try to work quickly and let imagination and play take root into the painting rather than taking it to seriously, this way I can encourage Eve’s contribution without making it to “grownup.”

Visit Ruth Oosterman’s blog and her YouTube channel to check out more of her wonderful collaborations with young Eve.

Prints of some of their creations are available via the Eve’s Imagination Etsy shop.

News say “unarmed man.”

That’s a child.

They say he stole candy. A baby. You kill a child over stolen candy? That’s probably worth $3.

We are just kids. Smh
Black kids.

Cashier called in and said he didn’t steal candy and that they didn’t call the police. Supposedly him and a friend were walking in the middle of the street going home and a cop told them to move, shot him from his car, and then got out and shot him again. His body was out for 5 hours and they didn’t let his mother ID the body.

As bad as this is, I’m happy there is a public outcry going on because of this. This makes me it a lot more likely the cop will be convicted in order to ‘please the people.’ Without this, though, it was very very very likely he would have gotten away with it. It’s apparent people are not going to rest until this police officer is served with his justice and that I do like. The rioting of buildings & businesses, though, is fucked up.

I like how every knows what really happens and truth be told know one really cares. It’s just a chance for people to act like the faultless animals they are!

Why does that sound so racist?

Because you know it’s the truth and you have no argument against it. People like you make everything about race. If some one disagrees it’s because they are racist. Call me racist I don’t care, it doesn’t bother me one bit. I don’t see any other ethnic group destroying their own neighborhood. Hmmmmm

I’m fucking white and I’m from New Orleans. Don’t you dare fucking tell me that this isn’t a race issue and don’t you dare fucking tell me that white cops shoot black men. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. IN. THIS. COUNTRY.

I dare to say it and the fact you are from N.O. Means dick. And every black man that rapes a white woman we can go on for hours. People like you make it about race, not the fact he assaulted a police office. Get off your high horse and put down the kool aid

you couldn’t handle the deep south bitch

Lmao! I may need a chastity belt to protect me from all you deliverance fuckers! Find a new cross to bear and maybe some one will feel sorry for you!
